Anandiben appointed as the governor of Madhya Pradesh
India's President Ramnath Kovind has appointed Gujarat's first former Chief Minister Anandiben Patel (77) as the governor of Madhya Pradesh. After the appointment of Karnataka Governor Vajubhai, another leader from Gujarat has been selected for this important post. Born on November 22, 1941 in Kharod in Mehsana, Vizapur taluka, Anandiben Patel started his career as a teacher of science and math in Higher Secondary in Baa Girls Vidyalaya, famous Mohini, in 1967, after studying up to MSc and M.D. M.P. Post Graduate. After joining BJP in 1987, Anandiben Patel took the responsibility of actively moving the Women Front in the party.
He became the first member of the Rajya Sabha in the BJP in 1994 and resigned in 1998 for the first time in the assembly elections. After that he became an MLA till 2012 and besides education, he became the Cabinet Minister with Revenue, Roadmap, Women and Child Welfare. He served as the Cabinet Minister of Keshubhai Patel and Chief Minister of Narendra Modi. Anandiben Patel was given the responsibility of the first woman Chief Minister as the then chief minister of Prime Minister sworn in May 2014.
However, Anandiben Patel resigned from the post of Chief Minister in August 2016 for the purpose of paving the way for the party to hand over youth leadership to the 2017 Legislative Assembly election. Announcing to not contest the Legislative Assembly held in 2017, only the promotional work was taken. It is necessary to note here that after giving resignation of Anandiben to the post of Chief Minister in 2016, he had offered him such a valuable position in the party.
